Easy ways to lovely teeth

November 29, 2017

Having healthy teeth is no guarantee of having a smile that you feel perfectly comfortable about smiling your best smile with. Many of us have small imperfections in our teeth that we hope others will not notice. Sometimes they actually stop us smiling or laughing as much as we would, and that’s actually not very good for our mental health. That’s why we recommend veneers in Elsternwick.

At My Smile Clinic, we want our patients to feel able to smile as much as they want, so that they trigger the release of serotonin and other natural chemicals that make us feel happy.

If you have not come across veneers in Elsternwick before now, it might pay to come in for a consultation and let our dentist, Dr Geeta Perks, take a look at your dental imperfections.

What are veneers?

Veneers are a quick and long-lasting way to cover imperfections such as chips, cracks, worn edges, gaps, discolouration and the odd mild misalignment. They are a bit like nail extensions, except that they go over the front of your teeth, are made of porcelain, and you can expect them to last for more than 10 years if you take good care of them.

If Dr Perks thinks you are a good candidate for veneers in Elsternwick, the treatment can be completed in only one or two appointments. The first step is to take impressions of your teeth so that the technician can make your veneers. The porcelain is colour-matched to your teeth. Porcelain does not respond to dental whitening, so if you want to get your teeth whitened you need to do this before getting veneers.

Dr Perks will prepare your teeth by removing a very thin layer of enamel. This allows the veneers to lie flush with your natural teeth, and also provides a rough surface for the dental cement to adhere to. Once the veneers are fitted, all you have to do is treat them with respect and also make sure you clean them well around the gum line. They can’t decay, but gum disease is possible, just as it is with all your teeth.
