Glossing over your imperfections

November 17, 2017

When you think about what we put our teeth through, it’s surprising how well they hold up. We use them to bite and chew, some of us use them to open bottles (but don’t do this, please), and we also need to use them as an intrinsic part of our most important means of non-verbal communication – our smile.

However, if your teeth have taken a bit of a battering over the years, and now have imperfections that are causing you to feel self-conscious about smiling, then you can get those imperfections covered over with veneers in Elsternwick.

The ideal camoflage

At My Smile Clinic in Elsternwick, veneers are used to cover over worn edges, chips and cracks. Veneers can also be used to cover over mild misalignments, so if you have one wonky tooth, you might want to use a veneer to make it appear straight, rather than fork out lots of money on braces.

In Elsternwick, veneers are tiny porcelain sheaths that are colour-matched, shaped and sized to blend in with your teeth by highly skilled dental technicians. If you have gaps between your teeth or they are somehow too small for your smile, veneers can also be used to make your teeth appear bigger.

The treatment journey

Having veneers usually takes a couple of appointments at My Smile Clinic. During the first appointment, we will colour-match your teeth and prepare them for the veneers. Preparation involves removing a very thin layer of enamel. This is for two purposes. Firstly, it provides a rough surface for the dental cement to adhere to. Secondly, it allows the veneers to lie flush with the rest of your teeth.

Veneers are highly durable. They can last for more than 10 years if you look after them carefully – absolutely no bottle opening with your veneered teeth. Your veneers can’t decay, but you can get gum disease around the edges of them if you don’t remove plaque, so it’s a good idea to come for twice yearly appointments with the hygienist here.

To find out if veneers are the best solution for your dental problems, then the best thing to do is to book an appointment with us at My Smile Clinic.
