What are Veneers?
A veneer is a very thin, tooth-coloured piece of porcelain (like a false fingernail) that is bonded on top of your own tooth to make it look aesthetically pleasing. Veneers can also be made using bonded white filling material as an alternative to porcelain. You can have just one veneer or several. A full set is used to create a smile makeover that compliments the shape of your face, hair and skin tone.
For a single stained tooth, we will try to match the precise shade of porcelain to give it a lighter appearance and make it look natural so that it fits in with the surrounding teeth.
Veneers can also be used to close small gaps between teeth when braces are not suitable. If only one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be used to improve the appearance without using braces.
After your new veneers are fitted you will given a protective splint to wear at night to help prevent them from chipping or breaking. This is especially important for patients who might clench or grind on their teeth at night. It is important to return for regular maintenance of your veneers to ensure longevity.
