Crowns & Bridges Elsternwick

Crowns

A crown is a cap that covers your tooth. It is used to restore teeth when they are broken down or have large fillings that have weakened the tooth structure. The crown protects the tooth structure and is typically tooth coloured, giving the restored tooth a natural appearance.

A crown could be a good solution for you if you have a large discoloured filling and would like to improve it's appearance and your smile. If you have had root canal treatment, you may need a crown to protect the weakened tooth. The crown will allow you to eat and bite down on it normally. Crowns are also used to anchor a bridge or help retain a denture in the mouth.

Bridges

A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth or when you have gaps in-between your teeth that prevent you from eating normally or affect your confidence to smile. These missing teeth are anchored into the mouth using crowns placed onto the natural teeth on either side of the gap. If you need a bridge in your smile line, it can be made with porcelain to make it look like real teeth.

Once you have a bridge fitted, you will have to take extra care of your daily hygiene regime to ensure it stays plaque free and that you can prevent bad breath.

Nowadays, gaps caused by missing teeth can be replaced using dental implants. Crowns and bridges can be fixed over the dental implants to restore the missing teeth with a natural appearance.

Cosmetic dentist in Elsternwick Dr Geeta Perks can provide these treatments. Make an appointment today.
